Charltons wants our employees to achieve a healthy work life balance between their professional and personal lives.

Expectations vary as to what constitutes an ideal work-life balance.  Individuals have different goals, values and definitions of success. We expect our staff to be possessed of a high level of intellectual ability, to be hard-working, ambitious, determined, to possess a willingness to learn and a desire to enhance their individual skill sets.

As a boutique corporate finance law firm advising multinational clients we operate in a highly competitive environment and face unique pressures and challenges which  we endeavour to meet with enthusiasm and flexibility. Our reputation is based largely on the quality of our work which we believe owes much to the focus and motivation of our employees.  We frequently work on deals across time zones which on occasion involve working through the night.

Our legal work is at times demanding and requires creativity as well as agile and analytical minds. It is Charltons’ experience that far from jeopardising productivity, measures to improve work-life balance actually boost efficiency.

We encourage our lawyers to be life-long learners and pursue continued education. We regularly organise CPD courses with partner firms and with professionals from other disciplines and facilitate study leave when possible.  We encourage our lawyers to be active beyond their desks and become involved in professional, business and charitable associations. We are flexible when it comes to working arrangements for employees with young families.  At the 2012 Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Asia Women in Business Law Awards Charltons’ was recognized for having in place flexible work arrangements to help women advance in the legal profession. Approximately half of Charltons’ associates are women, as are most of its partners, while women are in the majority in the firm’s Beijing Shanghai and Yangon offices, which are also all also managed by women.

Above all else at  we encourage constant in-office discussion and interaction. We operate an “open-door” policy as we believe effective communication to be a cornerstone of every successful legal practice.
